Junk removal, bin rental or a dump trip: compare the same job
Choose by included service, load and total cost, not just the smallest advertised starting price.
Three services, three scopes
A self-haul trip means you arrange the loading and transport and pay the facility’s applicable fees. A bin rental generally concerns a container and its agreed delivery and collection service; confirm who loads it. A full-service junk-removal quote may include loading labour, but you must check its actual scope rather than assume every task is included.
What to ask a bin company
Ask for the bin volume, accepted materials, included weight, rental period and excess-weight rate. Confirm delivery, pickup, extra days, placement conditions and tax. A 20-yard bin describes volume, not a 20-tonne allowance. Do not infer safe payload from the size name.
What to ask a junk-removal crew
Describe every item, access constraints, stairs, loading distance and any dismantling. Ask whether the price depends on volume, weight, time or an on-site assessment. Confirm disposal charges, labour, tax, excluded materials and how price changes are approved.
A worked comparison, not a market-price claim
Suppose the same 800 kg load has a confirmed disposal rate of $150 per tonne and a $25 minimum. A single trip would cost $120 in disposal fees. Add a hypothetical $40 of transport: $160 in entered cash costs. A hypothetical bin quote of $250 with 1 tonne included and no other charges totals $250. A hypothetical full-service quote of $400 includes a different labour scope. These numbers demonstrate comparison only; they are not local prices or offers.
Do not compare price without scope
The lowest entered total may exclude your loading time, vehicle rental or tasks covered by another quote. Compare the same material and tax basis. If the weights of individual trips differ, calculate each trip separately before adding them together. A mixed or restricted load can also need a different facility or material category.
Turn the answers into a usable plan
Copy the calculator plan, attach the material list and ask the provider to confirm exclusions in writing. Keep the final quote, scale ticket where available and receipt so any later difference can be explained. Use the official operator’s current instructions for acceptance and transport requirements.
